This review is for the second half which is an account of The Great Fire of London. One day I may return to the first half but I was more interested in the fire and wanted to skip to it. I appreciate this book because it’s an amazing historical reference. That being said, Pepys isn’t exactly the best writer and so I found myself skipping over sections. He sure loves a name drop. I also didn’t learn anything I didn’t already know about the fire. Ultimately, I didn’t get much out of this but it still scratched the itch for the history nerd inside of me. Amazing how his diary was preserved so we can see a first-hand account. A memorable quote: “With one’s face in the wind you were almost burned with a shower of firedrops.”
Graphic: Fire/Fire injury
