This would have been 4 stars if not for the first and last 3 chapters. There's one thing I for sure have no interest in, and that's medieval England. So if that's not for you, skip the 1st 3 chapters. I was bored to tears and put the book down for 3 months. The middle chapters were enjoyable, and generally fine, filled with myths and lore that highlighted the similarities between that of Ireland and Scotland. I thought great, keep that coming.
But. Here's the gripe. Why do the authors of these things always strives for conclusions 3 chapters long at the end? It was a teeth bearing ride through the last 75 pages of inaccuracies and misinformation. I can't even summarise here with a brief list or a qeneralbgist. It was everything. It was every sentence - or sometimes twice per - in practically every paragraph... For SEVENTY pages.
I love Hugh and Jim, and their previous works, but unfortunately I really didn't gel well with this. So much so that it may have derailed another purchase.
