Sarah Crossan is fast becoming one of my all-time favourite authors!
I've read Moonrise (loved it)
I've read a book she co-wrote called We Come Apart (amazing!)
Now I've read this little beauty, Toffee! (Also wonderful!)
I just love the way Crossan uses free verse to tell her stories, and with snippets of information/words, you piece together the lives of two amazing characters.
Allison, a young teenager- mistaken for Toffee and Marla, an elderly lady.
Allison is hiding in Maria's shed and slowly makes herself comfortable in Maria's house,
Allison soon realises that Marla doesn't quite remember what day of the week it is and where she put the tea bags so it makes it fairly easy for Allison to pretend that she is Toffee, Maria's old friend.
We discover why Allison ran away and a beautiful friendship is formed.
This is a story of identity, mental health, and friendship!
I can wait to read all of Crossans backlist!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me! 🤓

A novel in verse. I don't normally love these, but I really connected with this one.

Everything I wanted 'Room With a Stranger' to be, in beautiful prose and with utterly captivating characters.
