Good overall, but complicated. Starts out very slow, then a lot happens. A good amount of knowledge of Native American beliefs required for full enjoyment.
first death only happens about half way through the book, then many deaths very quickly.

There is so much murder, but also an exploration of many things. Things like revenge, what it means to honour yourself and you culture, can things ever be made right, and more.

At times it was hard to track what was happening. The author would suddenly have the characters think back to past events with little or no transitions. It does remind me of how some Elders tell stories by telling around the story.

Even with the at times disjointed way of telling the story the ending is just perfect.

Despite the prose being overwritten at times, and the amount of violence against women, this book is about nature taking its revenge and breaking intergenerational trauma cycles.

Uhm, ok so this book... exists. It's good but also not good. The concept? Amazing. The horror elements? Give me more right now. The scare factor? Oh God yes! The writing? Meh. I just don't think I like how Jones writes honestly, it was so slogging and hard to get through most of the time that this was my longest read for the first time in a while.

I feel like his writing style has the energy of me trying to be impressive in middle school by using all of the thesaurus but still using "says" 744 times in a chapter. It's repetitive but also not as the words change but it says the same thing over and over again.

However the parts that are fight/scary/action scenes are really good. That scene with Lewis and Shaney, god that will live in my head for a long time.

I loved the first third of this book, the middle third was solid and the last third dragged on a little. A great story with some truly disturbing imagery. Any horror lover will love this book.
