A great companion for save the cat. Wonderful if you’ve already got a story and just need help with the romance part.

I actually had several A-HA moments while reading this, where the author put it in plain terms just what makes the romance works. (Not romance as a concept, but romance as a genre, which is a very specific thing.) The fact that I don't often like some of the actual common tropes and traditional beats in romance is not the fault of the person who has very clearly and captivatingly laid them all out here. I set out to understand romance as a genre that is not usually my cuppa, and this very handily has helped me do that.

This is a useful book that, despite its brevity, still contains some unnecessary content.

Gwan Hayes does a great job breaking down the ins and outs of writing romance. Fun, quick, and a great supplement to any writer's tool kit.
