I want to lose myself in this moment.
I want to forget
the empty ache where my mother should be,
my sisters' madness,
my own rotten feelings of guilt,
my complicity.
I want to forget it all.
But even in this most perfect moment of perfect moments,
I can't.

I think so many reviews saying how mind blowing this book was might have jaded me a little. I'd really come up with some crazy elaborate conspiracy theories and was totally ready for a psychological masterpiece. It's not that it's not shocking, at least some of the key end elements, but that it wasn't nearly as drawn out and crazy as I'd thought. And somehow that was a let down

So don't go into this with any notions. Just read it for the story it is. And you should love it :)

Ok ... just WOW! Wow. WOW. Wow. Geez ... guess I better come up with some other words, eh?

Two years ago, Cate was put in jail for burning down a barn - and harming a girl who had gone to the aid of the animals inside. Now she's out - and she's coming back for her brother Jamie.

I guessed early on where this story was going but, for once, the fact that I figured it out before the reveal, didn't annoy me to death! The story unfolded so beautifully and poetically that I appreciated the journey despite the suspicions about the ending. And the ending? Oh there was enough of a twist there despite my suspicions.

I nearly passed this book by. It had been on my TBR shelf and that shelf was near-collapse. But, I picked it up to read the first few pages - and then just couldn't put it down. Turns out, this is one of my favorites for the year.

Wow. (Had to get one more in there!)

WUT.

The ending of this MAKES the book. It was okay before. It's crazy awesome by the last dozen pages. I thought I had guessed the mystery and so the ending wouldn't be any kind of big reveal. But I had only guessed part of the end, and rather than tie everything up with a bow, Kuehn leaves things crazy and concludes the book. THAT I loved more than anything.

Once again, I am kicking myself for being a Psych major (or maybe I just watch Criminal Minds way too much). I literally had the ENTIRE thing figured out right to the very last detail of the ending by page 2, so I didn't enjoy this at all. The writing style made it a fast paced read, but it never really got intense because nothing was surprising. I didn't get mindfucked at all. There was never an element of 'what's going to happen?!' I already knew what Jamie's memories were going to be, and I already knew what the outcome between him and Cate was going to be (literally, I worked it out to the last detail before Cate even really re-appeared in the story without actually working my brain at all).

I honestly don't see how everything that happened wasn't blatantly obvious to everyone before it even happened, but I guess that's just how my brain works.

So, if you're not prone to quickly figure out mysteries and psychological workings, you would probably find this book amazing. It was just all too obvious for me though; nothing was vague about any of the foreshadowing from the beginning, so I saw right through it all.

Also, newsflash to authors: selective memory and amnesia is becoming the most overdone plot since the love triangle, but if you're going to do it at least don't make the outcome when the main character discovers their memories so obvious from the get go.

SO. FREAKING. MINDBLOWING.

I usually hate thrillers, but this was definitely an exception for me. I thought it was well written and very different and interesting... I'd really recommend this book but it is quite disturbing if you've reached the end and haven't figured out the twist yet.

I was actually lucky enough to win this book in a GOODREADS GIVEAWAY!! AND I am so happy i did!

WOW. This book was crazy, I loved it! It was suspenseful, thrilling, and kind of scary!

The whole book you never know whats going to happen next, you just keep flying through it just to find out some answers. I really enjoyed it, even though I had an idea about the ending...that last page/scene I did NOT see coming..it gave me goosebumps and chills...it was really crazy! This is probably the second big thriller book i have read and I am really starting to enjoy these type of books. The character Jamie really draws you in from page 1, and you just want to know what this kid went through and what the hell is going on with him! I really could not figure out what was wrong with this kid for the majority of the book.

And his sister, Cate really interested me. Keuhn really made Cate seem like this crazy and disturbed young woman, I loved Cate's character, the way she was written and the things she did and said. Throughout the book you just keep thinking did Cate kill the mother? Did cate do this and she defiantly did that! My mind was all over the place.

This book was wonderfully written, I loved the writing style. I loved how Kuehn did flashbacks throughout the book it really made it flow well and I was never confused about where I was in Jamie's life...everything just really worked.

Finally, that ending......I think I just stared at the last sentence for about 10 minutes, I was just so mind-fucked. That last scene gave me goosebumps up and down my whole body, it was so creepy and so perfect! I really did not see that specific ending coming, I kind of figured certain aspects of not like that...it was disturbingly beautiful

I honestly think this would be a great movie, I really enjoyed this book and HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!
