This book was pretty good. I love dark fantasy retelling, and this one was really well done. Even with the title, I didn’t see her becoming Ursula until the end. I’m saying 3.5 stars, it wasn’t my favorite but it was well done.

Le tomó 300 páginas ponerse interesante, tenía 341 y ni siquiera pudo mantenerse interesante 41 páginas. El final malo, durante 300 pasaban cosas apenas relevantes. Es un no rotundo.

Like other people I have no idea what to make of this book. Some part of it were mindblowing and I could not stop listening (audiobook) but it started slow. The delivery of the audiobook was great.

As you all know this is a sea witch retelling and at the end despite time passing I did not think there was sufficient development for the character who became the sea witch to be anywhere as evil as the Ursula we all know and love to hate.

This book was really disappointing. It’s pretty slow and I just don’t understand Evie. It doesn’t Maine sense why she would be so fiercely loyal to Annemette, even after Annemette denies being Anna. Why would Evie choose her over her best friend and the guy she supposedly loves (THAT ‘love story’ was rushed and kinda came out of nowhere).
The character development just wasn’t great and I wanted more from this story. But it does pick up towards the end!

Urda, I'm bored.

This is supposed to be a Little Mermaid retelling and yet somehow an Ursula origin story at the same time. The result is a relatively short novel that drags painfully until literally the last five chapters where finally something happens but at the cost of characters completely flipping their personality. Without getting too spoilery, most of the book is these characters traipsing on the beach and being awkward at parties with hints of badly executed magic. The couples are so insta-love-y and not developed that it makes them impossible to root for. And the "twist" essentially boils down to a revenge plot steeped in a love triangle and petty, teenage girl jealousy. The transformation into "Ursula" also came out of literally nowhere and made me want to throw the book against the wall. I only powered through it to see how Ursula would be "created" and it was so random and nonsensical, I feel like I have to drop my rating down from 2 stars to 1, because the longer I think about it, the angrier I get.

Maybe if I was 15 years old, closer to the ages of the main characters, this book wouldn't be such a mess. But I'm not. So unless you're a petty 15 year old girl, I can't recommend this.

It was very boring and even after reading it 2 times I barely could get through. Wouldn't really recommend it to anybody.

A fantastic backstory and twist on Ursula. I also liked that it was more in a traditional time period.
