I think this is a good read aloud book. The stories are short and at the end states what the moral of the story is.

This is the story of a boy named Aesop and how he created all the famed fables the world came to know. What I liked about this book is that in the middle of telling Aesop's story, we find a handful of his more well known fables. Beautiful illustrations just adds to this book.

This book incorporates fables to explain the history of Aesop, why he created his stories, and how he became free. It’s beautifully written and the pictures are amazing!

- Fable illustrations are acrylics on wood panels
- Biography illustrations are watercolors on watercolor paper with minor mixed media collage
- "Fable is more historical than fact, because fact tells us about one man and fable tells us about a million men." - Gilbert K. Chesterton

This would no doubt get lost in a library, but fables have so much classroom potential for readers' theater, puppetry, and stop motion animation! Love the historical background on Aesop, love the fable retellings, love the illustrations.
