It was good, but nothing more. At first I was excited to read about the characters, the world, the plot that was slowly unfolding, but I got bored. It came a moment in which nothing was happening and I lost interested in the book. I cared a bit about Corban, Cywen, Gar and Storm, maybe even Kastell, so they were the reason why I decided to keep on reading even when I didn’t want to.
I am not saying this is a bad book. I just think this was not the type of fantasy book I was really in the mood for. So now that I finished it, I have no idea if I’ll read the rest of the series, at least not for now. However, considering that this is the debut novel of the author, it makes sense that it didn’t feel like a great book. I’ll read another of his series which sounds great because I think the author has grown and learnt a lot since this book.
Overall, the story is intriguing but I lost interest not even halfway through the book and I just didn’t care that much. But I blame this on me because I think I didn’t pick this book at the right time.

Fantasy is an escapist endeavor but to succeed in that, an element of wow-ing should be present. As derivative the genre is, the hurdle is not impossible to jump. This one sticks too close to safety, thus being predicatable and boring. DNF.
