A nice return to the franchise for me.

Set between the first and second movie this comic does nothing really new but takes a few of the common motives of the series and provides some good entertainment.

description

Zula Hendricks, an AWOL Colonial Marine that is struggling with a serious back injury that she incurred in her first combat mission, and Davis 01, a rogue android, discover plans of Weyland-Yutani to get their hands on a Xenomorph sample. They set out to thwart those plans and take care of the Aliens themselves.

Brilliant idea.

This comic is more in the vein of the second movie than the first, as its focus is clearly on action rather than suspense. Though it could have done a better job with the latter if the creators would have showed some more patience here and there. I think Cameron's movie has some pretty suspenseful scenes too. And this one mostly doesn't.

But it is good fun, with sometimes great artwork. The dark and gloomy style fits the series well and the artists' work with scale and especially with light sources is impressive.

Overall an enjoyable read.

Mileage may vary depending on how big a fan of Aliens you are (I always preferred the more horror oriented stories that are closer to Ridley Scott's original), but it's a quick action romp with some really good sequential storytelling that feels atmospheric. Its only problem is that the story just isn't that interesting.

Some good stuff, some repetitive. At least we're getting to see a bit more of the universe and a different set of experiences rather than simply the 'here are the isolated victims of these monsters' story.

The best Alien story I've read in awhile. Awesome artwork. Also, ties in (somewhat) to the story line of Alien: Isolation.

Such a great take on the franchise. Tense. Scary. Full of action and horrific creatures.

Pretty good. Not the greatest Aliens comic I've ever read, but enjoyable none the less.
Following an ex Colonial Marine who's teamed up with a rogue android trying to stop The Company from collecting xenomorphs for their bio weapons division. Each of these characters have to learn the differences and simularities between them so they can more effectively not die while fighting Xenos.
The comic is presented episodically, each issue having a title crawl and cold open, I think I'd rather watch this as a big budget tv series.

It took me some time to get into the flow of this book, but overall I enjoyed it. Some of the time jumps and flashbacks were a little confusing but part of that is how literally dark this is: it’s kind of hard to see what’s going on. Still I really like Zula and having read a couple of other Alien books with her in them, I’m glad to get a little more of her backstory. And some of the panels were utterly terrifying in the best possible way. Overall enough to make me continue the series.
