This is my fourth AH book and I've loved them all. It seems a lot of the complaints about this book are due to the romance portion of the storyline, but that didn't bother me at all. I have so enjoyed the mix of history and romance that AH weaves into her novels and this one was no different.
Telling part of the story through letters was so interesting and we got to know some of the main characters differently through reading their letters. This was a beautiful story about a time period I haven't read a lot about.

This was an excellent audiobook - really well read. It was a gently moving story, it never felt fast paced but it also was never really boring - I just enjoyed the journey of Deborah as she secretly became a soldier.

Amy Harmon has done it again. She has a way of telling stories that captivates me. I loved the determination and grit of Deborah Samson. I had no idea of the existent of the real Samson until I read this book.

彡 the vibes 彡

  • historical
  • romance
  • the revolutionary war
  • loosely based in truth
  • sweeping, epic, and surprisingly heroic

I do love an Amy Harmon romance and with this book, she skillfully weaves a tapestry of both historical facts and creative fiction. This novel was inspired by the extraordinary experiences of a real-life young woman who dared to defy societal norms during the tumultuous times of the Revolutionary War. By assuming a male identity, she courageously engaged in combat, becoming a beacon of bravery and resilience. Despite the challenges she faced, the protagonist remained unwavering in her commitment to the cause, showcasing an incredible display of grit and determination. But the novel is not just about war and deception. At its core, it is also a profound exploration of love in its many forms including romantic love.

Wonderful historical romance with an unusual perspective

This book was a thrilling and fun read. I love American history and this is loosely based on a true story of a woman who served in the Revolutionary War disguised as a man. The writing is wonderful and puts into words the patriotism and passion of the colonists who wanted to be free. I sped through the story without realizing it. I was sad when it ended. Highly recommend.
