It's truly an excellent book that treats all its diverse characters with respect.
I'm kinda stunned how good this was. I say that as someone who was already a fan of Charley's work. I'd read "Sheltered Lives" and "Testing" and loved them -- they did not prepare me for this level of depth and research and... yeah. It's not what you'd call an easy read - there were times I had to stop and go back and forth and check the crazy date-stamps on the chapters... but the effort was worth it. I never wanted to leave the world of the Slazans.
