This was surprisingly entertaining, and a quick read. The world building left a lot to be desired, and much of the social control was difficult to believe. Anyway this dystopian young adult shit is my jam, but I can't help always stacking them up next to the Hunger Games. I want to say MEH overall, but at the same time I'm off to read the next one so what do I know lol 😆

I'd heard really mixed reviews before reading this book but I personally enjoyed it! At first it seemed like the whole dystopian World was kind of like 'The Hunger Games' Capitol, but as the book progressed it was more about the control side of the 'Society' and not the punishment side that the 'Capitol' focuses on.

Overall, I raced through this book and I will be purchasing the trilogy as the first book leaves you on a sort of cliffhanger where you definitely want to know what happens but don't mind if its straight away or not. Like it isn't a book where I would be going out of my way the next day to purchase the trilogy.
With that said, I would recommend this book to other readers if they are interested in dystopian books and perhaps romance (note: not romance as in the raunchy bits). Probably for a younger teenager around the age of 13/14.

I loved the whirlwind of events that happens within this book! This book reminds me of the uglies series (which I absolutely love). I absolutely love the dystopian/post apocalyptic genre that it has going on.

I liked this book. It wasn't my favorite of the dystopian fiction I've read, but I didn't dislike it either. It has a good premise and has some interesting parts, but it isn't pure action like many others, which at times is ok. It is a romance, and really doesn't have too many surprises over all.

One of the only reasons why I think I just liked it but didn't LOVE it was because it's YA fiction and I'm not in the phase of my life, however it wasn't bad. Basically this girl, Cassia is going to be matched with someone in the Society on her 16th birthday and they will be her husband. the only thing is, she sees two guys in her micro disc and is confused about why that is. Thus starts this whole chain of events.

Likes:
I like Bran, her little brother, even though he was a minor character; I think he was a well rounded character.
The author did a great job with imagery in the beginning of the book, the banquet was described very well, down to the food.
I liked the suspense of the matching, even though I knew what was going to happen.

Dislikes:
The insta-love between Ky and Cassia; it doesn't even make sense. It seems manufactured just because he was an option.
Cassia's character was really wishy-washy. She was going back and forth about her feelings for Ky and Xander which made me dislike her and not her situation.
The society was also very reminiscent of the Giver and in Divergent.
It didn't make sense that they didn't know how to write. -- I guess there are some parallels in that kids now aren't being taught cursive.

Overall/Final thoughts:
It was a little slow for my tastes, I think they could have done a better job of speeding it up and spent a little more time on the love story between Ky and Cassia because it felt too sudden. Overall, the premise has been done before but it could have lent itself to a more existential plot line. It was okay. I would recommend it as a writing prompt but not to read.
