L.M. Montgomery's books are comfort reads, but yet I must admit that I was a bit restless, can I say a little bored? I enjoyed the trilogy as a whole, but I felt that this last book was not really needed, in that it could have been told in two books.
The Emily trilogy is similar to the Anne books, with some differences. They are well written and I am glad I read them.

I feel like LMM got tired of these characters and didn't feel able to do anything with them except have them marry. Emily/Teddy has to be one of the more boring pairings and Dean is just an awful person.

Finishing these books was very bittersweet. As a whole, I loved them and they now hold a special place in my heart. They made me feel all of the goodness of being young and imaginative again. I feel like my inner 12 year old has been reawakened in the best of ways.

The final book in the Emily series wrings my heart every time. Emily is writing more and more for magazines, and dreams of writing a book. But all of her friends have moved away and are chasing their dreams elsewhere. She is often lonely and doesn't know where to turn, except to Dean Priest. Even Teddy has deserted her! Oh I can't even express the emotions as I read this book.

Ugh! The could have beens are driving me crazy. I can't comprehend why Emily didn't initiate a confrontation earlier. The ending leaves me feeling unsatisfied.

If I owned this book in physical form, I would have thrown it across the room when I finished it. Montgomery's first two books in the Emily Trilogy were so fantastic, encouraging, and imaginative. But this one was agonizing and seemed a copy of Jane Austen's sort of novels, only less enjoyable, just as obvious, and more infuriating.

Spoiler
Emily, in this book, is not the same person as in the first two books; the entire plot revolves around her love and devotion to Teddy—and any reader knows they're going to end up together; it's only a matter of when. (And any clever reader knows it will always be at the very end of the book.)

When I started this book, I didn't want to put it down because it was so enjoyable; halfway through, though, I started reading at a furious speed because I just wanted it to be over. How frustrating to have loved the first two books and end with such disappointment.
