Slow Heat in Heaven
Skylar Crandall has returned home to the family estate Valtair. Cash as usual is there to protect her. When she shoots Flynns' dogs he rescues her...
He is able to update her on where everybody is and what's happened over the years: some in jail, some died, some turned prostitute.
He blames it all on her sister and her husband. The dogs have been killed and they belonged to her old time friend Gail and she's owned by Chigger now.
She learns her father Cotton had borrowed money and the banker now wants to know if she will be paying the note back. The house and land were put up for collateral.
After Cotton's heart attack Ken and Tricia had stopped the logging company from operating and there was no income to the estate.
Story also follows Johnnie who's in jail and his life there.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Slow Heat in Heaven was an enticing and unique novel. Much like all of Brown's books, it's sprinkled with drama, mystery and romance that will keep you second-guessing everything you think you know right until the end. Filled with twists and turns sure to have you gasping in shock, this novel is worth the read for anyone looking for a book that practically covers all the best genres under one paperback.

I can read dated stuff and find it not super suited to my likes but this hero was above and beyond of what I tolerate as an a-hole and abusive person. Not for me.

I think I have read this book about 5 times. The first time, I wanted a quick read, something to distract me from school, and ended up sleeping late and waking early to finish it. The second time because I wanted to understand Cash. The third, fourth and fifth time was to understand Cash.

Cash Boudreaux is the main reason why I love this book. I think he's the kind of character that you either hate or love, his man-whoring can be frustrating, and his violence and arrogance can also make him sound a little annoying...like the kind of person you wouldn't tolerate in real life. Sandra Brown is a genius because she took his character and made him lovable, almost addictive. She manages to bring out all his layers and merge them beautifully, even when he acts off-character he's still...Cash.

Anyway, enough drooling over Cash. I also liked Schyler. I think I love SB because her heroines, in her thrillers, are always sensible women who only become un-sensible in the face of passion. I liked how take-charge she was, and I was rooting for her till the end.

The plot was also very interesting, and quite unpredictable. I liked the subplots and the "baddies"...everything played out like a really good soap opera you can't help but watch.

And the love scenes! They just show that one shouldn't sacrifice quality for quantity, they were well written and made sense in the plot. Definitely one of my favorites :)

This is definitely one of my favorite SB books of all time.
