A shelter full of wacky animals with a cover that'll make you think our character will walk out with the dog of her dreams! I really enjoyed this book and will definitely use it at story time (but I'll probably skip the bit about the dead fish)!

Such fun to do this one with my My First Book kiddos. I was still getting laughs after I did it for the fourth time. The ending is fun!

A young girl enters the Happy Animal Shelter in hopes of getting a dog. The helpful not so helpful male adult then parades out a variety of animals from lizards to upside down "floating" goldfish but no dog. When she is ready to give up after explaining why she wants a dog, she is surprised by an alternative choice. Humourous with a nice twist about being open minded this is a fun book but will be honest - personally did not like the ending sentence - believe after all that felt it could have been stronger hence the three stars. Fans of Jon Agee will still enjoy and a supplemental addition depending on your needs about books about pet adoption/getting a new pet and mindset.

Growth mindset - you don't always get what you want, and sometimes that's a good thing.

Need a book for a dog (or pet) themed story time? This 1 was very silly and has a surprise twist!

A super funny book about a little girl who goes to an animal rescue to buy a dog. This would make a great book for a pet storytime.

Content warning: there is a dead goldfish in part of the story which might make some little kids sad.
