There were parts of this book that I deeply connected with, as it's focused more so on the inner workings of a day-to-day Female Led Relationship. TammyJo shares some opinions of my own--that LOVE is the foundation of the most fulfilling and long lasting power exchange relationships, that there are much easier ways to get BDSM play than to enter into a lifetime relationship with someone, if play is all you want. If you're only looking for fantasy, this isn't the FemDom guide for you.
There were some nuggets of knowledge I truly appreciated in this book--the discussion of the differences between a submissive and a slave, between rules and protocol, between service and control, between wants and needs and active versus passive submission. She also discussed authority, obedience, and ethics...and how they all co-exist in the longest lasting FLRs. Any relationship, but especially an alternative one, takes a lot of honesty and communication. I deeply appreciated this perspective. The Sample Contract in the Appendix was also super helpful.
However, I'm rating this 3 stars because I feel the last three sections were incredibly slow to get through. I think instead of the large focus on such small matters like what if the Dominant or submissive fall ill...TammyJo missed an opportunity to give comprehensive advice on the various talents and tools it takes to run a poly household. She also skipped entirely over the fact that some FLRs can exist in separate households. By the end of this book I still had so many questions and felt I'd missed an opportunity to learn a lot more than I had. In that way I agree with some other reviewers that this book could've been more specific and thorough.
