Certainly far from my favourite Stephen King. It was OK.
It wasn’t very scary and there wasn’t as much of her hallucinations as I would have liked to see. It also would have been cool to see more of her childhood memories.
Interesting but I felt it was incomplete… missing a final element to really seal the story (see above, to be honest).
Always a fan that he doesn’t shy away from the ickier and harsher realities of being lost in the wood- it isn’t just cold and damp, it’s disgusting.
I would like to say she felt at least twelve.

This is the story of a 9 year old girl who becomes lost in the woods near the Appalachian trail. It isn't a horror novel. I found it to be more similar to survival stories in which character ls need to use their wits and available resources to survive.
Things I Liked:
Things I Liked:
- I like that the MC was smart and made generally good decisions.
- I liked the atmosphere and building tension. The forest itself almost felt like an antagonist.
- I like that it ended when it did and wasn't super drawn out.
Things I didn't like:
- I feel like not pursuing horror was a missed opportunity. There were a few things that happened that were unsettling but they didn't amount to much.
- I didn't really care for the baseball aspect. I know it's right in the name but listening to the MC listening to a baseball game on her walkman wasn't super exciting for me.
- I wish more happened. I don't think the climax had the payoff I wanted from this book.
Graphic: Animal death
Moderate: Cursing, Abandonment, Excrement, and Vomit
Minor: Pedophilia
There's some dead animals throughout the book. It's not traumatic in the way that it would be if the family dog was killed because they're wild animals in nature. There's some diarrhea and vomiting after the MC drinks water from a stream. Those scenes don't exist to gross you out - you mostly just feel bad for the MC.gromithorror's review against another edition
