By now you have read 2 books in this series and know that if you like Sanderson, you will probably like Weeks. You will also know if you like this series.
Big cast of characters, simple magic system, politics, secrets within secrets. Who is good, who is bad, who thinks they are on the side of right?
While I found much of this book kind of dragged on for me, the set ups and the ending were great. Worth reading through and ready for the next.

I suspect this might be the high water mark of the series, but we will see. The writing has improved, dude needs an editor, but this was very solid.

The third volume of Brent Weeks' Lightbringer series is a bit of a regression. In the first two books, Weeks found a really good balancing point for his fast-paced plotting, twists and turns, and character development. In comparison, quite honestly, this one feels pretty shallow. The conflict doesn't seem to deepen very much, and much of the plotting seems like world-building standing alone.
That said, even a sub-par Brent Weeks book, a regression, is still a good book! I didn't blaze through it like the first two, but I never got bored reading it. There is enough of the interesting setting and fun characters built up in the first two books to carry this one. Even if it did seem a bit info-dumpy at times, I enjoyed reading about it. I didn't mind that there wasn't new original conflict because I was happy to be reading more of this series. I think that says a lot for Brent Weeks as an author. If this truly is his low-point in the series (it is a middle book I guess), then his low-point is still more entertaining than a lot of authors' high points.
The book itself has a lot of the same things that Weeks is known for: twists, excitement, fun characters, and sometimes cheesy dialogue (although I don't think it gets in the way). There are some new wrinkles put into the overall story with some cool developments, but I'm expecting more "things to happen" in the fourth (and final) volume of the series. There seemed to be a lot of maneuvering here: characters and events are still building but they're within sight of a large breaking point, where everything will actually "happen" in the next book. Again, while this book isn't perfect, it's far from disappointing.

I love the Lightbringer series but had a really hard time getting into The Broken Eye. The first half of the book felt like it drug on and was just a middle-of-a-series book that I had to get through to get to the good stuff. The second half was pretty action-packed with a lot of plot twists. I'm curious to see where the series go, but thus far this definitely wasn't my favorite.

Probably closer to 3.5 stars. The first half of the book was extremely slow and I put it down for a few months. Came back and struggled my way a little longer and then the last third of the book is as dramatic and enthralling as anything else.
My only negative is that time passing is hard to keep track of and when switching POV, you seem to relive the same minutes over again, but without adding a ton.
Overall, very enjoyable though and am about to dive into the next in the series!
