It's hard to explain what I love about those more old school YA novels and why I in a way miss them. I understand that the world needs different heroines nowadays. I understand that some people dislike love triangles. I understand that the special snowflake story has been done so often it's not special anymore. And yet, I just enjoy those stories anyway. They make me a little nostalgic and they remind me how I re-found my love for reading after high school and college.

The ending of the series couldn't have been more perfect. Of course, this book was in a way quite predictable. There were a lot of things I saw coming and a lot of surprise reveals clearly not being such big surprises. But I enjoyed each and every second of it. I enjoyed how all the pieces of the puzzle clicked. How weaknesses were exploited and strengths were used. How those characters literally drove each other to their absolute extremes.

I also really loved how the love triangle was solved eventually. I think that in a way it was not the ending I had been seeing after the cliffhanger in the third book, but I understand that this ending fitted Kira way better as a character. She's a heroine. Always putting others first. Always putting their happiness first. And if she can do something good for someone else, even if it hurts herself, she will always pick that option.

Although Kira has been presented as a special snowflake, she has never been a one-of-a-kind-and- there-will-never-be-another-one-like-me character. We know how she came to be. We know what that meant for her future. We know what it means for the vampire community, the protector community and the punisher community. The proces can be done again and again and again, with the same results. Just like the epilogue is sort of showing us.

I can't wait to read more books by Davis!

God, It's been a while since I've cried this much over a book! I thought Blaze was the worst/best, but Scorch made me cry even more!

Kaitlyn Davis, I freaking love you!

I just want to say, I've reread this book many times, and each time I remind myself to look past the romance and see the story for what it is. It's a creative and original take on vampires, with a twist of conduits and a strong female character who carries the story. This is not another twilight, Kira carries the story on her back effortlessly, and judging the book based on a character's romance choice makes me wonder if you expected this to be another twilight.
With that being said, after rereading the entire series you can see from the very beginning how the romance was going to work but it does take another read unless you read it slow the first time. This romance makes sense, works well, and it is my favorite romance in young adult books. The ending couple makes sense and they have always brought each other happiness. Great book!
