Elspeth has a ancient spirit trapped in her head that knows all of her secrets and she has kept him a secret for years.

This is a set in a world of fantasy where magic comes from providence cards which I thought was a nice touch to this book, something different from the usual magical realms I have read.

The nightmare was rather cryptic and likes to give out riddles. Which was a bit confusing at times.

I loved the relationship between the two main characters but the romance seemed a bit sudden.

I know nightmare is a bad guy but I couldn't help but really like him.

That ending had me literally on the edge of my seat and I can't wait to get my hands on book two.

This was an overall enjoyable book and easy read. I didn't feel the characters were very well defined and there were minimal interactions between each other them for the most part. The romance lacked tension and the pacing was super fast (about 60% of the book happens within a week) so I didn't feel super invested in anything happening. But I liked the imagery and style of writing.
