The way this memoir is organized, we toggle from the âhereâ of the authorâs memories with her late husband to the âafterâ of her grief in his absence. She ponders her feelings about whether sheâll see her husband again in the âafterâ (spoiler: she doesnât think so), and whether grief will be a part of her âhereâ indefinitely.
Can I be honest with you? Not every reader is ready for this one. Look up the trigger warnings first.
But if youâre still on board, if youâve ever wondered if anyone else could possibly understand the pain of such a loss as this, read this book. If you simply want to see Amyâs journey, pressing into the process, writing openly through each despairing day, becoming the writer her husband Kurtis always knew she was⌠Read this book.

âHow can grief be so universal, yet so widely misunderstood?â
Amy Linâs memoir perfectly captures the essence and the many facets of grief. The writing is beautiful and I appreciate the raw honesty of this book.
After the sudden passing of her partner, Amy shares how her life was thrown off kilter, their further plans not coming to fruition, and overall learning to adapt to a new lifestyle.
~ A few of my favorite quotes woven withinâ
âGrief finds its way into everything. Makes everything a part of itself.â
âGrief is chronic pain.â
âWhen he dies, I fall out of time.â
**this one especially hit me hard because it evokes the heartbreak and aftermath of a loved oneâs death. Time is meaningless because grief is always there in the shadows.
I listened to the audiobook read by the author herself in one sitting! It was a great/heartbreaking experience to go through alongside Amy Lin while she tells her story as if speaking to a dear friend.
This is a heartbreaking read to say the least. Please be kind to yourself and gentle with your heart before picking this one up.
