Devastating. 😭

The way this memoir is organized, we toggle from the “here” of the author’s memories with her late husband to the “after” of her grief in his absence. She ponders her feelings about whether she’ll see her husband again in the “after” (spoiler: she doesn’t think so), and whether grief will be a part of her “here” indefinitely.

Can I be honest with you? Not every reader is ready for this one. Look up the trigger warnings first.

But if you’re still on board, if you’ve ever wondered if anyone else could possibly understand the pain of such a loss as this, read this book. If you simply want to see Amy’s journey, pressing into the process, writing openly through each despairing day, becoming the writer her husband Kurtis always knew she was… Read this book.

A heartbreakingly sad account of a woman losing her husband and navigating her own health issues and grief afterwards. The poetic vignettes that toss between the depths of grief and small, sweet moments with the one she loved were beautiful and raw.

Grief is all encompassing, overwhelming, and it affects you in ways you never would have imagined- things being too sad for people around you, losing friends, and feeling like life isn’t worth it without your person by your side.

This story is sad but there is light sprinkled throughout as she gives you a glimpse of their love.

Extremely sad, well-written, and gut-wrenching. Amy Lin has an amazing ability to depict grief and the indescribable nature of it. You grieve with her in many ways.

Beautiful and tragic. I cried in unexpected places. Her prose/poetry style is so easy to read but so moving. I felt like I got to know a piece of Kurtis, and I feel lucky to have that from her. Thank you for sticking around, Amy.
