Loved the art and it's very creative in it's structure. I didn't really connect with any of the characters, so that's why I'm not rating it higher. I did love Ana's style—very Audrey Hepburn/parisian.

The characters were drawn very nicely and they aged so well. Love the occasional faux full page panels. This is one of those books that you’d read again after finishing it (in this case the story’s told backwards).

But story-wise it’s pretty much a cis-heteronormative the one who got away clichéd story. (Why cis-hetero ppl obsessed with prying their romantic interest’s romantic interest(s) in a want/afraid to ask - want/afraid to know way and never talk about it mater-of-factly or treat this topic as a way to gain insight and understanding).

And I’m getting the impression that French love the “liminal romantic love/relationship” troupe, likely a coincidence coz obviously every culture’s obsessed, need to research more.

The art is so gorgeous and evocative. How they conveyed so much through facial expressions alone really speaks to the artist's skill.
