Farah is an utterly charming character. She is kind, smart and playful. In this instalment we see her gaining some independence and really backing herself in her business and what she wants to do with her money.

Yet again Darraj packs a lot into a chapter book without the plot feeling rushed. I enjoyed seeing Farah explore new ways to earn money for camp. I liked how she stood up to (yet another) bully. But most of all, I was captured by how Darraj addressed class privilege: how unfair it is that some kids have a guarantee of both needs and luxuries while others don’t; how unfair that there are more opportunities for rich kids than for poor kids; how uncomfortable it can be for a lower class kid in a friendship with middle or upper class kids. I was really on board with this accessible discussion.
