Unfortunately I didn't love this as much as her other two books. It seemed that the quality of her writing and her wit was slightly diminished - more chick lit and less distinctive than usual. I did, however, LOVE the roller derby stuff. I am sort of addicted. It's a byproduct of living in Minnesota, I suppose.

I enjoyed this, it was a quick, light read. It's the story of a woman whose marriage falls apart, and who finds herself again through roller derby. I enjoyed reading about the character's struggle to learn the game, and I also liked the friendship that developed between her and her coworker/derby wife. You don't need to know anything about roller derby to enjoy the book (the character doesn't when she gets involved).

At one hand I got what I searched for, a lighter read with some humor in it but in the other I was a bit underwhelmed. Didn't particular like the characters and found the plot to be very over used and it didn't bring anything new to the table. But I might try out other books by this author. I'm not sure yet.

This was a quick, light read. Charlotte Goodman, the narrator, was whiny and obnoxious, although to the author's credit several characters repeatedly call her out on it. The story mainly focuses on Charlotte's emotional growth through the dissolution of her marriage, with playing roller derby as one part of how she's getting her shit together. My main complaint about this book (besides the weird occasional switch to third person narration and just how relentlessly it plodded through heterosexual storyline arcs, yawn) was that I wanted it to be MORE ROLLER DERBY. But also, better roller derby? The derby depicted here felt like it dipped pretty heavily into tropes and cliches -- Francesca the elusive goth chick who smokes cigarettes and is always covered in mysterious bruises she won't talk about being Charlotte's introduction to roller derby (come ON), the derby community being aggressive and cold rather than encouraging and welcoming (especially the coaches, what the hell?), and the pace of Charlotte's skills acquisition (she was doing contact drills after just a few weeks on skates, how about NO)... but, ya know, fiction! I also just Did Not Care about most of the characters, which is kind of a problem since the plot is the Character Development sort. All in all, a "meh" book, with a few good lines and funny moments.

I think this was the best of Pamie's three novels. I thought the story of Charlotte's marriage was interesting and found her friendship and newfound love of roller derby really enjoyable. I think part of why I enjoyed it was because I could picture Pamie doing these things because I know the roller derby experiences were probably torn from her real life. I wonder how somebody who wasn't as familiar with her life/work would have appreciated those sections? This was a very quick read, and overall I give it thumbs up.

A total heartbreaker - all I got. Probably did not help that I was pmsing like a fiend while reading this but it made me kind of scared of relationships (all over again).

Bought 4 books on my Kindle to my trip and this is the only one I read. Super quick, funny read.

Loved this book. Thought it was a lot like Whip It (or whatever the novel was called), except not YA. Very cute.

A very entertaining novel about a woman reclaiming her life and self through roller derby. Loved the roller derby stuff, although it certainly didn't make me want to run out and try out. Way too violent!
