Campbell is infatuated with the stories he collects, and from the notes it's possible to piece together that he and his friends are gathering these stories because they heard them in their own language in childhood and were formed by them. from Campbell's notes we learn that children were not being told these stories anymore because Christians were condemning the telling and breaking up the places where storytellers would gather. every story Campbell collects is a dream saved, given to him again by his child self, stuck in the place that would last beyond memory, a book. presented, by necessity of what was lost, in both English and Gaelic. I will not get to go back there, but I can have a little bit of it here with me.
