This collection of candid stories was an easy, quick read. There were only a couple that were really thought provoking, but the rest were well written and edited. There was one story in particular that I loved the style of. It was really whirling and abstract, towards the end of the anthology. I like that all the stories are from volunteers.

I got this as a First Reads giveaway! I'm so glad too. It was really an eye-opening and interesting read.
Back a few years ago in college I took a literature class focused around feminism. We talked a lot about the sex industry and much of it focused on the bad parts - how women are exploited and raped and forced into it. And yes, there's a lot of that. But there's also the women who choose to be a part of the industry. Men and women who want to do sex work and love it, suffer through it, or think it's just their path.
All of these different people have their own personal stories in this book. Some are heart-breaking, others funny, and a few that make you think it might not be such a bad gig after all. Their unique stories highlight how strong and amazing these men and women are in the face of such a potentially dangerous job - and many even while toeing the line between what is and isn't legal.
Definitely a read I recommend to anyone. Sex work is highly stigmatized and it's books like these that can help people realize that sex workers are still just people. Not bad people, not always people down-on-their-luck, but possibly the girl next door. In an industry full of shadows and secrets we need to shed the light on who they really are. They are you and me. Some just happen to like it a little kinky.
