This series is so far a rollercoaster of emotions. Going from rooting for the characters to being so frustrated with them they deserve a good, hard shake. They are all so flawed in a realistic way. It can be sort of depressing so if you are looking for a pick-me up Romance/Suspense/Mystery you won't want this one, but it is very good and worth reading if you are ready to be frustrated with character choices.

I’m on a Grant County binge so I can get to the Will Trent series. I finished this in three days which is pretty quick for me. This instalment was decent; again Slaughter strikes with a disturbing murder, set against a cultish plot line.

The story starts off with an argument between Sara and Jeffrey. Not too surprised at this point, though from how hard Jeffrey has been trying, I did feel like Sara should give in a little, otherwise they would get no where. As usual their relationship develops along with the murder plot. By the end of it, they finally reached a tangible point, which is a nice  milestone, considering we have one more book to go for this series.

As for Lena, she is a character I may never understand. She’s basically a bag of screw-ups and contradiction. Sometimes I wonder why Slaughter gives Lena as much airtime as she does. But maybe there are really people like that in this world. At least her actions in the ending were praiseworthy, though I felt like Slaughter was doing some ominous foreshadowing, what with Sara’s fears when Jeffrey left off to do what he had to do (no spoilers here). Because of this I practically scrambled to start the next book lol

Storyline is great as always but I hate Sara and Jeffrey so much. The usual.
Karin has a great way of describing tense situations that makes you feel as terrified as if you were there with the characters.

This book is slow and not a lot goes on - just not up to par with a typical Slaughter novel. The audio is also terrible, nasaly with poor accents, especially with the male voices. It's unfortunate the last 2 Grant County books were not re-recorded with Kathleen Early. Really detracted from the story, made it difficult to enjoy.
