I’m pretty sure I read this once before in college but I didn’t remember a word of it. I feel like Anne too often goes unnoticed. She was brilliant like her sisters and a talented writer, but this is not my favorite book. Not for the writing, most just because Gilbert, the narrator was so excruciatingly annoying. I felt so frustrated with him so often that I couldn’t come away liking the book very much. Still, worth the read for its beautiful prose.

The Brontes never cease to amaze me, and this one in particular has left me in awe of its author’s bravery to write such a tale, especially at such a time.
Now I've finally read something from every Bronte sister!! this one must have been sooo shocking and controversial in its time. very progressive. just a tad long.
