Very poetic with deep images at times, however the story as a whole does not flow well. It often seems repetitive or distracted. Most importantly, the characters lack a certain depth as does their relationships with each other. Still it can be very beautiful in its poetry.

Maybe I didn't get it because I've never been in a situationship

This book is a beautiful one, and yet I don't think I can even articulate a point of it.

The prose is beautiful, the setting descriptions are beautiful - all the way around, this book is majestic.

Having said that though, I possibly read it way too fast, so that made me feel a little bit disjointed from the story, but overall I would recommend it

My first re-read of a Kawabata novel, I say re-read but really it was an audiobook. I fell in love with it again and I feel I got more from it this time around having been more familiar with the author. Previously it was my first time reading any works but not just Kawabata but Japanese authors in general.

That said although I have 'read' it again I would like to re-read it in paper form again, though may leave it until later in the year. If I enjoy it as I did nowand previously, then it may be getting a bump up to 5*

I feel now that I fully appreciate the beauty of this, such a beautifully written piece if classic literature.

I love revisiting this every year and it just gets better and better.

I hope to read the rest of Kawabatas works that I havent read yet. The Old Capital especially
