This sequel is not as good as its predecessor -- when are they ever? -- but still has its moments, especially as pertains to grief. I get what Greer was trying to do with the ending, but it still felt rushed and unresolved. Of all the relationships in this book, the one between Less and Freddy -- ostensibly the main one! -- remained the least developed.

This is a funny ride - as I remember the first book being though I couldn’t tell you any details about it if pressed to be honest. In this one our main character Arthur Less, middling novelist, suffers a shock when his old ex-partner dies… then he finds out he will be essentially evicted from his home unless he comes up with a bunch of cash. This initiates a cross country adventure, during which our protagonist participates in various author appearances to come up with the money. Throughout the book he continues to (lightly) grapple with his loved one’s death and concerns over the state of his current relationship with Freddy… all while anticipating the possible appearance of his father who walk out when he was a child and is now himself a dying man looking to reconnect. The storyline on these books are secondary to me to the witty writing and humor woven throughout. Quite enjoyed this ride nevertheless

Very predictable, but not in a bad way. I know Freddy doesn’t want marriage but I think there’s a way for the Arthur Lesses to stop being confused ;)
