Too sad to write a review right now. 1941 never happened.

- "At first you think she is plain; then a sort of spiritual beauty imposes itself on you,"
- "These Sapphists love women; friendship is never untinged with amorosity."
- "After all, what is a lovely phrase? One that had mopped up as much Truth as it can hold."
- "I think of you: I have a million things, not so much to say, as to sink into you."
- "The percentage of Lesbians is rising in the States, all because of you."
- "Altogether after reading your letter I felt like a stroked cat."
Met een voorwoord door Alison Bechdel, what more can a queer want?

The CLASSIC sapphic love letters, to which we all will only ever aspire, complete with that devastating and heart-wrenching end you know is coming but still feel utterly unprepared for, especially reading Virginia’s final few diary entries with their brusque expressions of determination and stubborn hope. Virginia’s jealousy is sometimes shocking in its intensity, and Vita’s carefree presentation belies a deep tenderness. Alison Bechdel’s introduction and explanatory commentary beautifully supports and frames the correspondence without overstating or overstepping.
These letters also occasionally provide (as with my experience recently re-reading The Waves) an illuminating reminder of the colonial mindset so entrenched in even the quite radical left in England at this time.
