I was surprised that I actually liked this story. I have even ordered the second book of this series. I loved Hollis' personality. How kind she was. She was true to herself. I have read a lot of reviews, and it seems most didn't care too much for this story. It is a light read, and it has romance with sadness.

Boring compared to The Selection series

I LOVED the Selection series and went in expecting something similar with this book, which was completely my fault and probably one of the reasons why I did not like it. The romance felt kind of forced and abrupt and the ending was really unexpected in a not so great way…

Honestly super disappointing, I loved the Selection series and got that this was trying to render that love triangle backwards but it just wasn’t very good. The story was fine I guess but Hollis’s feelings were so blah and every time she thought about the king or the blacksmith it was just super shallow. I was hoping for more

I actually bought this book by accident and couldn’t return it so here we are! I decided to read it and was pleasantly surprised. It’s remarkably similar to the Selection series plot, but diverges at a certain point. I enjoyed it more as it went on, and by the end I was really invested. Can’t wait to read the next one!

I knew people said this book was garbage.... but I had no idea it was HOT juicy garbage that has been baking under the summer sun for a week while wild raccoons and bears stop by to shit on it.

What the heck just happened? I'm sad to say that this book is a case of bad writing, particularly plot ideation. :l
