Life-affirming and lovely. The characters are all richly drawn, and Spencer himself felt not at all like the type of blank-slate YA protagonist to whom things happen to and around, but a real, complicated person who has a temper and is sometimes a dick, but is also brave and learns and makes things happen for himself. I loved the support network that slowly builds around him, and it was a joy to see his teammates have his back. I just felt really good reading this.

i have no words
i really recommend everyone reads this book, it made me cry and it made me smile

it deals with serious issues surrounding being transgender and state laws, which should be something every cis person is aware of and can help fight against.. it also deals with real allyship and performative allyship which is a huge problem in the lgtbq+ community

Cute. I usually don't like religious drama in queer books, but this one was okay... the friends to enemies to lovers plot was a bit all over the place in the beginning. It was very very lighhearted and not that deep in certain aspects (and that's okay, that's probably the style of the book).

Timely and cute!

This book was incredibly cute, with wholesome characters like Macintosh, Theo and Coach, but some very current situations like bigots, although in a way I think it was a little more of a fairy tale in the sense that Spencer was accepted by the league after no that much push back, specially with how things are right now, bit sometimes we need a little bit of a fairy tale.

For trans rep it’s a 5/5 ⭐️ book and we really don’t have enough of those.
I enjoyed it as it is: a lighthearted, queer, YA book. Easy to read, fast paced, and (fairly) uncomplicated. And that’s amazing. We need more positive queer books.
I would recommend it in that regard.
Personally, I don’t think I remember it very well after one year, that’s why it’s a 3⭐️ read for me.

Actually the cutest book ever.
I completely absorbed this book in a single, 2 hour session. I am literally not a romance fan but I will forever forget that rule when it comes to transgender rep.
I really did see myself in this book, mostly in Spencer’s relationship with his parents and the fight for the gender neutral bathroom. The comments made by the cis QSA students were fully real to me. And the anger/guilt he felt towards his parents? Me.
Loved this book, reading stuff like this always reminds me that I can still experience love, despite my transness.
I did cry, yes.
