I thought I read this to my son year's ago, but if I did I didn't record it here. Just finished reading it to a 3rd grade class and we all enjoyed it very much. Lovely story.

This was a book my son requested me to read.
Fafnyr Goldenwings, a three-headed dragon that sleeps deep inside a cave on Drake's Hill. Because their mother needs a quiet place to finish her novel, the three Davis children find themselves spending the summer on Drake's hill. They meet Fafnyr and each head tells a story.
This was an ok book. it was a quick read and it made my son happy for me to read it.

Lovely little childrens novel. Three stories in one and all of them so full of childhood wonder.

First, yes I am *quite* aware this is a kids book. But honestly, does anyone these days still believe that kids books can't be held to high standards?

The Dragon of Lonely Island is a book that could have been so much more. Right off the bat, the writing style leaves something to be desired but the simplicity of it is nostalgic in a way. And there certainly was an attempt at diversity and trying to empower young girls. Still, there is no real action and I found myself bored. I can't imagine what that means about kids trying to read this.

I do want to note that I acknowledge the attempt do framing is a clever one. But there needs to be a real story to frame your stories into. The children do absolutely nothing when they aren't talking to the dragon and what they do happen to do is only so that the story the dragon tells makes sense. Even the little puzzle box never lead to anything and that was the only thing that happened outside the cave.

Essentially, this book should have just been a very small collection of short stories about one dragon and been left at that.

Not too bad for a book where all a dragon does is sleep in a cave and occasionally wake up to tell a story of times when it did something more than sleep in a cave.

My daughter was so excited to read this book with me this summer after her teacher had read it to the class this year. The best part for me was seeing her excitement at introducing me to this story. But it was fun to follow these three children on their adventures and hear Fafnyr’s stories. We are now reading the second one too. My daughter would give this 5 stars and I’d probably give it 3 so I’ve compromised on 4.

This is such a sweet and interesting story! It's very short and enchanting. I was first intrigued by the three-headed dragon on the cover, properly called a "tri-drake". When three siblings visit with the old dragon, each head of the dragon tells them a story while the other two heads are asleep. Each story teaches a moral lesson or gives some encouragement to one of the siblings. I loved this cute little book!
