So hard to follow - the author jumps timelines with little to no warning. Could’ve used a good editor to cut out SO MANY unnecessary and distracting detail descriptions. For example: Don’t tell me that the detective’s pants are a little too long for her and she has a hard time finding ones that fit unless it relates to the narrative - especially not in the middle of some dialogue.
The story had potential, but the poor writing gets in the way. And the author just seems to try to use sex to keep the plot moving when the writing stalls out.

Man, I just really enjoy a Gregg Olsen tale. This being the fourth book I have read of his, he did not disappoint me. What I liked best about this one was the return of Detective Kendall Stark and forensic pathologist Birdy Waterman. (See his book Victim Six). I noticed a few errors, and had most of the "mystery" figured out but was so caught up in the story and characters it didn't matter, still a five star read in my opinion.
The read jumps around in time, from 15 years prior to present day, giving the reader background information on what had happened to lead up the current situation. Body counts have been adding up over the years and twin Tori Connelly seems to always be in the mix of it. A greedy, get what she wants killer, who has no problem playing anyone to get the outcome she thinks she deserves. I wanted to reach right into the book and smack her. Seriously.
Lanie, Tori's identical on the outside but not on the inside twin, has a secret of her own that she has carried around since high school and Tori knows just how to use that to her advantage.
Parker, Tori's most recent husbands almost 18 years old son, would do anything for Tori, even if that mean taking a life, just so that they can be together forever. Little does he know he is just a pawn in her sick scheme.
Kendall's own past comes to light, with a secret she has never shared with anyone, including her husband Steven. She knows Tori is responsible for the deaths and is out to prove it. And it's all about to go down at the class of 95 reunion.
I'm hoping Gregg has another book in the works with Kendall Stark, after all, he did leave a nice cliff hanger at the end. One of my favorite authors, Gregg Olsen has written another excellent crime thriller. If you haven't read any of Gregg's books you should really give them a try. He has a unique writing style that drags me right into the story and spits me out when it's done.

3.5-4 Good book but liked the later books better, I really enjoyed the Waterman character and she was not in these first two books as much.

A page-turner with characters and plot that stay with you. The past and present are woven together to tell the story of a disturbing murderess and how she took advantage of anyone she encountered, even her twin sister. Best thriller I've read since Tess Gerritsen's Rizzoli & Isles series.
