This was a mixed bag for me. I liked the heroine even when she was being difficult and messy but the mid-book secret baby may be too much for a lot of readers. The hero had to grow on me because he was pushy and demanding but I did like how he figured out that he needed to shift his priorities and do the work if he wanted a real relationship.

I was reading the author's description of her writing style and it states that her books are often quirky. That is spot on for this book! Quirky!! It's about Veronica or Ronnie, a teacher, who travels to Storafalt, Wyoming to take over the teaching of some kids who live on a ranch. Talk about culture shock. Ronnie is from North Carolina and is biracial. She is stuck in the middle of nowhere with no easy access to her usual beauty and health care products and begins to question herself about having taken the job. She meets the owner of the ranch and father to three of the kids who falls in lust at the first sight of her. Thus begins a odd little story about their relationship and their respective families. John is a true alpha male but he is somewhat different from all those caricature alpha males we see in so many romance novels these days. He is a rancher, has never really left Wyoming, has conservative views and believes his word is final. He is looking for the typical "rancher's" wife and sees no problem with his expectations. I had a hard time in the beginning because the relationship between Ronnie and John seemed to move rather quickly but as I read more, it made sense. What I particularly liked about the book were the secondary characters, especially the children. In my opinion, this book is not so much a romance but a book about relationships between family, between small town residents, acceptance of one's differences and love. The subtle references to Ronnie's heritage were nicely done. Her interactions with the townspeople and John's family were wonderful. My only issue was with Ronnie's decisions. I was yelling at my Kindle at some of what she did. But she had to take the road to come out on the other side. There is some mild heat; not at all erotic but fits with the tone of the book. All in all, a lovely read.
