I love historical fiction novels, and this book is a fun twist on that genre. I learned so much about D.C. I found myself running over to Google every time a new name or location is mentioned. The story itself was also a fun one for me. I loved all the main characters, even Jessie Lee, though I side eyed him a few times. Lol. This was a 5 star read for me.

This is an incredibly fun historical fantasy. The way that the author included a unique backstory for each supporting character was so well done. I was thoroughly engaged and wanting only the best outcomes for this group. I would read a separate story aligned with Zelda's character, she was my absolute favorite, the added flourish that she was a butcher for a day job was absolute perfection.

I love historical fantasy that emphasizes and highlights the actual history of the period!!! These characters felt like real people from their own era, not modern characters shoved into a "historical" framework. Like the best kind of historical fiction this has something to say about history AND about our modern era.
