“You want to say: ‘Isn’t that a touch pathetic, Joellyn?’ And maybe it is, but what’s pathetic about us also makes us human.”

As a whole, I give this book somewhere between a 3.3 and a 3.5.

The first story I liked more than the second. I greatly enjoyed her writing style, in fact, if it weren't for that, I would've given this book two stars. I give the first story a 3 for the story and a 4 for the writing. The second gets a 2.7 for the story and a 3.3 for the writing.

I didn't know what to expect before reading this. I was pleasantly surprised with it's charm, it's plot twist at the end and I loved reading this little book.

I picked up this nouvella randomly through a B&N Nook book sale, and I fell completely in love. It's funny and witty and I had to muffle my laughter to not wake up everyone in the house. I loved it and look forward to reading it again and again (although the second story wasn't quite as good, it was still noteworthy). Fantastic writing, I can't wait to read more of Edan Lepucki's work.

Disclaimer: I know the author and I think she's great.

This was the perfect length and just what I was in the mood for. I wanted a quick, enjoyable, but not too frivolous of a read -- something I could finish in a day or two. I don't want to spoiler the first short story, but I'll just say that I read the first part of the short story expecting something completely different than what actually happened in the end. Maybe it's because I can relate to some of the thoughts in Joellyn's head.

The second story was good, but it wasn't *as good* as the first and definitely didn't resonate with me as much.

Reading this makes me excited about Lepucki's next novel. You could say I am a fan of her cynical humor.

Finished this in one sitting during my lunch hour at work. There were 2 short stories in this novella.

Contains humor, wittiness, raw and honest - I absolutely love this although I wish there more more story on Joellyn. God, it's relatable on few aspects - at least for me. Clever writing style, entirely two different short stories but both has strong meaning. But gotta be honest here, I enjoyed reading the first than the second. But talking with possum? Bring it on.

Super quick (It's a very short novella), conversationally written, supremely relateable, and starkly realistic, If You're Not Yet Like Me is an excellent read. If you're someone who really appreciates reading something that is 100% unromanticized, this will be great for you. The narrator is writing a letter to her unborn child about the time just before the child was conceived but not really as a parent to a child. More like as an adult to another adult.

I read a review before I read the novella that said it was really funny but I disagree. It's humourous but not in a laugh-out-loud or even quietly to yourself way. Its humour is more subtle and more real. It's funny because it's true.

It reads like a memoir. I had to remind myself it wasn't.
