The start was a bit slow, but once I actually committed to sitting down and reading it I enjoyed it a lot and it hit close to home in a lot of aspects. Definitely had me tearing up in some parts. Almost a perfect 5 except it’s just a personal gripe about the writing style being a bit simplistic (but it is YA after all).

3 ⭐️ I’d like to start this review of like this: this book was good. I had pretty much no expectations when I started this book even though I had heard about it for a long time. The characters are likable (some more, some less) and the story is beautiful, however it didn’t make me feel as much as I wanted to feel. I find it difficult to imagine someone NOT liking this book because there isn’t really anything to not enjoy, however there aren’t that many things to enjoy either. I don’t think i’ll remember this book, and I don’t think i’ll return to it for any reason I can today think of. An OK book, worth your time? I don’t know.

This is the type of book I had to read in one sitting to truly enjoy. Like, I read the first 100 pages on and off for months and really wasn't feeling it, but today i sat down and read it all and WOW, it's beautiful. Writing style and characters and their complexity and growth, amazing.

I’m suing for emotional damages – no one told me this wasn’t a cute little gay, fantasy/adventure book. Also, respectfully, I would not call this YA. But I sure as hell wish I had this when I was younger.
