While some of the gender stuff in here was interesting ('femme for pay' etc) I wasn't very invested in any of the main characters (except for Mia a little bit). I think I found it hard to empathise with all the femmephobia/misogyny kicking off. I liked that the Creamsickle had a queer history that we got to find out a bit about, but I wish that had been explored more. Excessive use of the t-slur, zero trans women and unexamined approach to trans guys somehow not being guys bothered me. Also I personally struggled with the amount of drinking and drug use in this book - that's not a flaw per se, or unrealistic, but as a recovering addict it gave me a run for my money that I wasn't expecting, although perhaps I should have been. I enjoyed Girls I Have Run Away With MUCH more than this, but that makes sense since GIRAW was written later.
