a really important collection of essays from an empowering group of muslim women that showcase the myriad of different experiences faced in modern day society. a really important book that exposed me to a lot of narratives that were previously unknown to me. 4/5 should be required reading for everyone.

A much-needed space for a diverse range of Muslim women to share their experiences and views. An ode to the power of stories, conversations and creating spaces for expression. I learnt something new from each essay, utterly brilliant. Great editing.

Finally finished this audiobook, as well as gained a paperback of it completely by chance along the way, ready for me to go back and reread with a pencil in hand. Very glad I read, found some gems that could be applied to anyone regardless of religion, gender, race, beliefs etc.

It's Not About the Burqua shows the diversity of Muslim women.

Most of the stories were engaging and while some were not as compelling, they were still interesting.

I don't usually review non-fiction books, but this was an eye-opening read on complex issues such as feminism, love, marriage and sexuality.

I think this book should be widely read. That said, I am not a muslamen reviewer, so I encourage you all to read own-voices reviews, as they know more than I do.

TW: islamophobia, racism, colorism, classism, misogyny, misogynior, suicidal thoughts, anxiety/panic attacks, mentions of rape, homophobia, abuse, gaslighting.
