A woman remembers the people of her life as she drifts and drowns in the aftermath of a sinking ship. Ocampo builds an enigmatic series of sketches from this concept, and having worked on it for ten years, it is polished and gleaming.

Well written "novel" that consists of what are essentially biographic vignettes of our narrator's acquaintance. It often circled back to her friend, her friend's mother and her lover, the narrator's lover. I think the premise and the "gimmick" of it was the most interesting part: our narrator has fallen overboard, and each vignette is a remembrance that strikes her as she's floating there.
