What the actual fork did I just read. Beautiful, terrifying art. Surreal borderline nonsensical plot. A good book to read before bed if you’re hoping for nightmares.

i don't tend to like things that are confusing, and spa has a really weird storyline with a lot of ambiguity. one reviewer calls it "Spirited Away via Junji Ito" which i don't necessarily agree with but i can see what they mean. the drawing style is very similar to Ito's illustration though. i think i just wish there was a bit more to the storyline.

A beautifully drawn graphic novel about a luxury spa where nothing seems as it is. You can truly feel the anxiety and unease ooze from the pages. I haven't felt this uncomfortable reading a novel for a while and it's hard to shake off that feeling. While the plot didn't offer anything concrete, the snapshots into consumerism and the horrors of employment paired with the grotesque images really keep you hooked. A weird one but I like it.
