The unnamed protagonist is afraid to introduce herself to new neighbor Zola because she thinks that Zola is too busy having fun with her pet elephant to want to play with her. Cute story about making friends.

The elephant in this room are all the excuses we make when we're afraid someone won't like us. Excellent picturebook about facing your fears and maybe making a friend.

interesting take on how we can think we know what's going on in someone's life, but until we actually communicate and engage we don't really know -- in this story, the young girl learns not to preemptively decide a new neighbor doesn't need her friendship (I love this illustrator)

I really enjoyed the back and forth glimpses of the perspectives of the main character and her neighbor. Will make for an interesting conversation!
