I adored the first 40% which is quirky, absurd, funny. Then there's a massive detour that I just couldn't wrap my head around. Surreal and strange and completely off the rails. We get back on the rails at about the 65% mark and it's back to being entertaining and intriguing and I was hoping it would stay that way. It did until we derail again at 90% and the whole last section has me scratching my head.
If you do like surrealist experimental stuff, you may love this! Heads up for some transphobic, racist, and fatphobic comments.

This was delightful and funny. Definitely surreal! It starts as mildly believable through the lens of old ladies and descends/evolves into sheer insanity. It's great. Good for anyone who wants to get a little zany. I feel like, don't worry too much about following the plot and keeping the characters straight, just enjoy the ride haha! There is some old school casual racism towards two minor characters (a Black woman and a Chinese man), so I'd say that's a bummer and the only part where it really shows that this was published in the early 70s by a white woman.

Listened to the audiobook, which was read in the style of an old British woman. Excellent! I would read a book/ebook version if I wanted to follow the story a little better though.
