Um...uh...wh-wha...? Well. Huh. That was...a book. A weird book and...not exactly weird in the good ways. Weird as in confusing, poorly paced, and felt like something a Martian might have written with a nominal understanding of how people on the planet Earth worked.

The first third of this book is probably the most compelling, mostly because at that point, I hadn't grown too weary of the damn thing being so fucking coy about what it was actually about. I thought the setup was really interesting, I liked the way we were shown all of the different ways Min has been murdered over the years, and I thought the way the book dealt with a possibly world-ending asteroid by practically brushing it under the rug was very intriguing. I was also really interested by the fact that Noah was going through the exact same thing and seemed to be really well-adjusted, unlike Min.

But then...we actually got Noah's POV. It's a fucking nightmare to be in his head. There's good reason for it to feel that way, since he thinks he's insane and he's anxious about every single thing ever, but he acted like one cool customer in almost every single one of Min's chapters and ended up acting like a complete jackass in most of his own chapters. It wasn't just about how he thought, I understood that, but it was also about how he acted that was incredibly dissonant to me.
SpoilerI also think his 180 degree flip basically at the end after a few vague facts are explained to him was really clunky and awkward. I actually laughed when he shot Min because it was so out of complete and total nowhere.

Once things got to a certain point, I lost a lot of interest in things.
SpoilerEverything that happens after the gassing was the real frustration tipping point for me, but I had been frustrated before that.
Any of the spooky, interesting atmosphere the first part of the book is able to establish goes out the window at some point and it ruins a lot of things that the book had going for itself.

I won't tag this as a spoiler, since I won't say anything that's a spoiler, but I was almost rolling with laughter at how dumb I found the explanation for everything to be. It was honestly so bad it was hilarious and I don't know if I'd be able to look past that if I decided to continue the series for any reason.

Min was interesting, Noah was insufferable, and Tack was an idiot. The only reason I finished was because I was curious what was up. That's it.

Interesting concept, but the ending felt a bit flat to me.

A super exciting read! Every few years on her birthday, a girl Min is tracked down and killed by a dude in a black suit. But she comes back alive every time alone and she doesn’t know why. Her mom and town officials think she’s crazy. Or do they? Is there something bigger going on? Is there a conspiracy?  High school bullying! And asteroids!!! What??!!! I loved it all!!

Nothing mind blowing about this YA, the normal mystery and slight nievety you would expect from 16 year old characters, running around trying to figure out a mystery whilst dealing with all their angst. Surprisingly I didn't see the big reveal at the end. I had in mind something a bit different so found that concept quite novel. Intrigued where the next book is going but not desperate to start it.

YA thriller. It took me a while to get into it. I had to push myself to get even half way through it. Once I got half ways it finally started to pick up and became more engaging. Not exactly content with the revelation at the end. I was expecting something gasp worthy but I was disappointed. Hopefully the rest of the series is stronger.

The majority of the book was a page turner for me, right up until almost the very end but it was more about the events happening than the characters. The ending kind of killed it for me. While I liked the characters there isn't a whole lot to make me invested in them. Everything seems to happen to them instead of them being active. It left me off-kilter. I am still on the fence about whether or not to go ahead and invest time in reading the sequel.

It was pretty good! Really interesting concept. The one thing that annoyed me though was the dumb characters 💀 I could clearly see what was happening and the main characters were just so stupid like "omg what is going on?? 😨😨" It was so obvious.. otherwise good
