This was a great, and sad, introduction to a part of history that really speaks to the imagination of children. While reading, I didn't realize how closely this book actually portrayed what really happened! I loved the final question in the book, and it was a wonderful conversation starter. Another example of how picture books are the perfect means for non-fiction.

I was happy to finally be able to read this moving story about the (poor) brave dog Laika by Kai Cheng Thom and Kai Yun Ching. Eversince reading "Fierce Femmes and Notorious Liars: A Dangerous Trans Girl's Confabulous Memoir" I'm a fan and I love how she and Kai Cheng Thom created this magical story about the first creature to orbit around Earth. They gave Laika a voice and though you may loose faith in humanity when you learn about Laika's fate, Kai Cheng Thom and Kai Yun Ching manage to restore it.

What a beautiful, heartbreaking story. Although we can't know Laika's thoughts as she was traveling, I thought this was a sweet addition to the true story of Laika and Vlad and is everything I hoped for from Kai Cheng Thom and Kai Yun Ching.

Such a sweet tribute to Laika the dog. I loved the angle with the stars as well. The illustrations were gorgeous as well.
