basically dnf at around 46% but i skimmed it till the end.
i was really excited for this cause it seemed so interesting and it was on my tbr for quite a long time so naturally i was thrilled to finally start reading it but i was so disappointed cause it bored me to death???? like i rarely dnf books, most of the time i force myself to finish what i start but i knew that if i kept going with this one it would inevitably put me into a reading slump. so there it is.

More like 3.5 stars?

I loved the premise and I liked a lot of the characters. The only problem was the most interesting concepts were the ones that the author barely mentioned. I wanted to know more about the directions, and what exactly high nonsense and high logic entailed. I wanted to know more and if the book had been longer we could have got that!

I really did enjoy it though.

I've heard and seen everyone talking about this book and the series as a whole with so much love, and I wanted to feel that too. Sadly I think this just wasn't quite as good as everyone says it is. There's a lot of really cool and interesting ideas in here, but not enough magic. I want to explore these magical worlds, not read about the memory of them. The characters in here were fine, I like the representation, but I didn't really connect to any of them in any meaningful way. And this book had a way of feeling too short, and insanely long all at once. I felt like we weren't getting enough of some things, and I want to explore them more, while also just wanting the book to be over. I might give some of the sequels a try at some point in the future.

Such a strange little book, but I really, really liked it. Certainly not for everyone, but I love this kind of story. Started book two this evening!

I really enjoyed this one, and there is no specific reason why it isn't five stars other than it didn't fully pull me in. Beyond that, I loved the little murder mystery and the darker themes of the characters we followed in this one. I really enjoyed Nancy's world, though my favorite character was Jack. I liked the uniqueness of the characters and their interactions. I think I would have fully loved it if it were longer, but at the same time, I enjoyed the novella length.

Loved this story, I would say I am not its intended main audience, but I could easily relate to that audiance and how this story would resonate. You could easily get lost into the many places this book conjoures up in your mind. Now I think I need to go and hunt for a door.
